Despite the challenges of online learning, students celebrated their achievements and met classmates and teachers in person for the first time. One student, Alicia, shared her personal struggles, including the loss of her mother, her dogs, and her home, and how online schooling helped her overcome anxiety. The ceremony marked a significant milestone for 120 graduates who persevered through difficult times.

Maklee L., a senior from Utah Virtual Academy, has added another accolade to her impressive high school rodeo career by winning the barrel racing event at the 2024 Utah State High School Rodeo Finals. Larsen has previously excelled in breakaway roping, pole bending, and goat tying, and was named the top all-around cowgirl in 2023. Her latest victory further cements her status as a standout athlete in high school rodeo.

Four Houston School Board Positions Up for Election
With the resignation of former board member Marissa Grams at the June 6 meeting, the Houston School Board will now have four positions to fill in the general election next fall. Grams’ position will be filled by appointment of the school board; it will then be included in the general election and the newly elected board member will join the board in January with the other new board members.
